This article explains how to change the password of your Microsoft 365 work or school account when you still know your current password.
Before you start: this procedure is intended for when you still know your current password and simply want to set a new password.
Change Password
- Open the Microsoft portal My Account:
- Sign in with your work or school account.
- Select Change password in the menu on the left.
- Enter your current password.
- Enter your new password.
- Re-enter the new password to confirm.
- Click Submit.
Result: your Microsoft 365 password will be changed. Microsoft may then ask you to sign in again with your new password.
After changing your password
Your new password applies to your work or school account and therefore to the Microsoft 365 services connected to that account.
You may be asked to sign in again on some devices or applications. For example:
- Outlook;
- Teams;
- OneDrive;
- Microsoft 365 apps;
- mobile devices where your work account is set up.
Note: from now on, use your new password everywhere. If an application continues to use your old password, sign in there again.
Forgot your password?
If you no longer know your current password or cannot sign in, do not use the above procedure but use the Microsoft password reset page:
Follow the steps there to verify your identity and set a new password.
Not working?
Then contact your IT administrator or service desk.
Then contact your IT administrator or service desk.
