This article explains how to sign in on a Windows computer with a different work or school account when this account has access to the device.
Step 1: Go to the Windows sign-in screen
Start the computer or sign out the current user.
- Click Start.
- Click your user icon.
- Select Sign out.
You will then arrive at the Windows sign-in screen.
Step 2: Select Other user
One or more user accounts may be visible at the bottom left.
- Select Other user.
- If this screen appears immediately, you do not need to select anything else.
Step 3: Choose the correct sign-in method
Don’t see a field to enter your username and password?
- Click Sign-in options.
Then select the key symbol to sign in with a password.
Step 4: Sign in with your work or school account
- Enter your username. For a Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Entra account, this is usually your full work email address.
- Enter your password.
- Press Enter or click the arrow to sign in.
First sign-in on this computer
If you are signing in with this account for the first time on this computer, Windows may first prepare a new user profile.
- This can take a few minutes.
- Windows creates the personal user environment for the account.
- Your organisation may apply additional settings during or after the first sign-in.
Possible issues
Other user is not visible
The option Other user may not be available on every device depending on the Windows and organisation configuration.
If so, report the issue to your IT administrator.
You see a PIN field instead of a password
Click Sign-in options and select the key symbol to sign in with username and password.
Sign-in fails
Check the following:
- that you are trying to sign in with the correct work or school account;
- that your password is correct;
- that Caps Lock is not accidentally enabled;
- that the correct keyboard layout is selected;
- that the computer is connected to the network or internet;
- that your account has access to this computer.
Still unable to sign in?
Then contact your IT administrator. It may be necessary to check whether the device is properly joined to the organisation and whether your account is allowed to sign in on this device.
