Use this procedure when:
you have a new smartphone
you no longer receive notifications from Microsoft Authenticator
MFA no longer works
you want to reset your verification method
Step 1 — Sign in to your Microsoft account
Open a web browser on a computer.
Sign in with your work account.
Step 2 — Open security info
Click Security.
Select Security info.
Or directly:

Here you see all configured sign-in methods (Authenticator, phone, SMS, etc.).
Step 3 — Change default method (IMPORTANT)
You can only remove the Authenticator after changing the default method.
Click at the top on Change default method.

Choose another method, for example:
Phone (SMS or call)
Verification code
Click Confirm.
✅ Authenticator is now no longer the default method.
Step 4 — Remove old MFA methods (reset)
Find Microsoft Authenticator in the list.
Click Remove.
Confirm.
👉 Repeat this for old devices or methods that no longer work.
⚠️ After removal, you must set up MFA again.
Step 5 — Add new verification method
Click Add sign-in method.
Choose Microsoft Authenticator.
Proceed until the QR code is visible.
Step 6 — Install Microsoft Authenticator
On your smartphone:

Install Microsoft Authenticator via:
Google Play Store (Android)

Apple App Store (iPhone)
Open the app.
Select Add work or school account.
Choose Scan QR code.
Step 7 — Scan QR code
Scan the QR code displayed on your computer.
Confirm the test notification.
✅ MFA is now reset.
Step 8 — (Recommended) Make Authenticator default again
Click again on Change default method.
Choose: App-based verification – notification
Step 9 — Verify functionality
Sign in again to Microsoft 365, Outlook, or Teams.
Check that you receive an approval notification.
